How to Increase Blog Revenue With Google Adsense

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit
We've all heard of those people who are making 'big money' with Google Adsense, but it is not quite as simple as creating a site and slapping on some Google Ads and waiting for the money to roll in. Here are some tips to increasing Blog revenue with Adsense.

Steps

  1. Pick a topic to blog about. The process of making money will start way before you make your fist penny, it needs to start with a clear strategy. A website/blog will only be popular if a) it's a topic people are interested in b) it is written well c) you are knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. There is money in scrap metal, but if you know nothing about it, leave it alone!
  2. Research the market. Are there 100 other blogs out there doing the same thing? If so are they making money? And if you are thinking of implementing advertising (like Google Adsense) are people buying keywords in your field? Ask yourself, am I unique? If the answer is yes, ask yourself why no one else is doing it! If no, ask how you can do it better than the competition, or at least equally as well.
  3. Set up a blog. There are plenty of sites - WordPress, blogger are good for beginners, or you could even create your very own with unique domain name; 123-reg.co.uk and moonfruit.co.uk are easy-to-use site builders and domain registration sites.
  4. If starting from scratch, pick a good domain name. For example if you are a car expert called Mike Brown, calling your blog 'www.carexpertblog...' rather than 'www.mikebrownscarblog...' will increase likelihood of your blog being found in search engines for relevant organic terms. Use this knowledge too when choosing page titles.
  5. Traffic driving. This article may seem to be missing the point so far, however, believe me these stages are most important if you are ever going to make money with Adsense (or any other ad stream). Traffic is key! Adsense works on click through, if you have 100 people visit your site and have one of those click on your Adsense ad, have 1000 visitors and it figures you may get 10 clicks...
  6. Make money from your site. Once you have traffic you can start to make money, that is if you have followed stages 1,2 and 3, and you know there is money in your market. As this article is about INCREASING your blog money with Adsense, it refers to the fact there are other ways to make money with a blog. You may want to consider offering advertisers links, banners, advertorials, recommendations, access to your readership database through newsletters, or social media benefits. Advertisers are more and more looking to connect with niche markets and across social platforms, so make yourself a respected voice in your niche so advertisers cannot resist connecting through your site.
  7. Adsense. Now down to the nitty-gritty, you need to implement Google Adsense by setting up an account (Google 'Adsense') and set up an account if you don't have one already and the simple stages will allow you to create ads in your chosen shape, size, colours... Please see Tips later on!
  8. Making the most of adsense. You need to have it near the top of the page, many find leaderboads, or right-hand sidebar ads work best. You need to make sure you have the right settings within your account so the adwords are relevant, I have had some clangers in the past, 'Thai Brides' available on one of my relationship counselling web pages!! So monitor your adverts and their relevance.
  9. Traffic, Traffic, Traffic. I will just finish off by saying this again; you need to get the traffic to make money with Adsense. Make sure your SEO targets take into account the relevant keywords you want to be selling.

Tips

  • Check out Google's Adwords 'Keyword Tool' to see if people are buying ads in your chosen niche and the likly cost per click. Some clicks are worth 10p while others are worth 25x that!

Warnings

  • Google Adsense can put some other advertisers off so think clearly about your advertising revenue streams and ensure they do not compete.
